People trying to put out a fire on farmland in Amargeti, in the mountainous east of Paphos district, found themselves facing a sudden flood minutes later when torrential rain hit on Wednesday afternoon, a local resident said.
Alexandros Nikolaou, who photographed the scene, said he and others had been trying to bring under control a fire they had found on agricultural land in the village when the rain suddenly began.
A few minutes later they were confronted with a sudden and heavy flood, which caused damage, he said. It all happened within the space of an hour.
