Donald Trump spent part of Christmas Eve fielding calls from children and families across America, mixing holiday cheer with his trademark wit and political punchlines. Taking part in the long-standing NORAD Santa Tracker tradition from Mar-a-Lago, the President joined Melania Trump to reassure youngsters that the military is monitoring the big man’s flight path.
When a 10-year-old from Oklahoma asked how they spot Father Christmas, Trump confirmed they are tracking him worldwide to ensure «he’s being good» and to guarantee that «no bad Santa has infiltrated.»
Pinball wizards and high IQs
The President didn’t hold back his opinions on the children’s wish lists. After a four-year-old girl asked for a dollhouse, Trump predicted she would likely get it, telling her mother, «I think we can work that out.»
However, it was the requests for tech and games that truly caught his eye. When one child asked for a Kindle and another for a pinball machine, Trump drew a connection to Elton John’s “Pinball Wizard.” Regarding the e-reader, he told the child: «You must have a high IQ. We need more people with a high IQ in the country.»
Clean coal and Santa’s appetite
Trump also leaned into his well-known slogans during the calls. When an eight-year-old from Kansas worried about finding coal under the tree, the President quipped: «You mean clean, beautiful coal?»
He also offered tactical advice to a child from North Carolina, concerned that Santa might be offended if they forgot the milk and cookies. «I’d leave them,» Trump advised, describing Santa as «a little bit cherubic, which means a little bit heavier,» and noting that he has «a serious appetite.»
From Santa to Truth Social
While the NORAD calls remained lighthearted—lasting roughly 20 minutes before the President spoke with service members—the festive mood shifted as Trump took to Truth Social. Acknowledging that «I don’t think the kids are particularly interested in this,» he pivoted to a scathing political message attacking the “radical left.”
In a post that touched on everything from border security to the economy, Trump wrote: «Merry Christmas to all, including the radical left who are doing everything possible to destroy our country but are failing miserably. We no longer have open borders, men in women’s sports, trans for all, or weak law enforcement. What we have is a record stock market and 401(k)s, the lowest crime rates in decades, no inflation, and yesterday, a GDP of 4.3%, two points better than expected.»
He concluded his holiday message by claiming the US is «respected again, perhaps like never before. God Bless America!!»
