Israel confirms agreement to US-brokered ceasefire with Iran

The Israeli government has confirmed it agreed to a ceasefire proposal brokered by the United States, following almost two weeks of direct military conflict with Iran.

President Donald Trump declared the ceasefire “now in effect” on his Truth Social platform, writing: “THE CEASEFIRE IS NOW IN EFFECT. PLEASE DO NOT VIOLATE IT! DONALD J. TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!”

Israel’s statement thanked “President Trump and the United States for their support in defence and their participation in eliminating the Iranian nuclear threat”.

The government said that “in light of achieving the objectives of the operation, and in full coordination with President Trump, Israel has agreed to the president’s proposal for a bilateral cease-fire”.

Operation objectives achieved

Israel stated it achieved all operational objectives, removing the “dual immediate existential threat from itself – both in the nuclear and ballistic missile fields”. The government warned it would respond forcefully to any ceasefire violation.

“In Operation Rising Lion, the State of Israel achieved great historical achievements and placed itself on a par with the world powers,” the statement read. “This is a tremendous success for the people of Israel and its fighters who removed the two existential threats to our state, and ensured the eternity of Israel”.

Trump’s ceasefire announcement

Earlier, Trump announced on Truth Social that Iran and Israel had agreed to a ceasefire, congratulating both countries “on having the Stamina, Courage, and Intelligence to end, what should be called, ‘THE 12 DAY WAR'”. He told NBC the ceasefire was “unlimited” and would last “forever”.

Trump brokered the ceasefire through talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday whilst his team, including Vice-President JD Vance, held discussions with Tehran, a senior White House official told Reuters.

There has been considerable confusion in recent hours about the timing and terms of the ceasefire agreement.
