CIA Director Bill Burns has proposed a deal for a 28-day ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, including the release of at least eight hostages and dozens of Palestinian prisoners, according to U.S. news website Axios, citing three sources close to the Israeli government.
The proposal, which would secure the release of women or men over 50 held by Hamas in Gaza, was reportedly presented during Burns’s meeting with Israeli and Qatari representatives on Sunday.
However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said earlier that Israel had not received any proposal for a 48-hour ceasefire in exchange for the release of four hostages.
“If such a proposal were submitted, the prime minister would accept it immediately,” Netanyahu’s office said in a statement.
