Education authorities have issued strict guidelines for school canteen operations as students prepare to return to classrooms.
The Central Committee for the Control of School Canteens has mandated adherence to health and safety regulations, with Local Control Committees required to evaluate canteens up to four times annually.
Measures include:
- Regular inspections starting at the beginning of the school year
- Installation of proper sanitation facilities
- Protective measures against insects
- Appropriate waste management
Product prices for the new academic year remain relatively stable. In primary schools, sandwiches will cost between €1.20 and €2.20, while in secondary schools, prices range from €1.75 to €2.20, depending on ingredients.
The price list also includes provisions for special dietary needs and organic products.
School staff will pay €1 for regular coffee or tea, with premium options available at higher prices.
Education officials stress that canteen licensees failing to comply with regulations will face action from School Boards of Directors.
