Workers in the ready-mix concrete sector continued their strike action today with a march to the Ministry of Labour.
Strikers gathered at Eleftheria Square in Nicosia at 10:30 am before proceeding to the ministry, where they presented a resolution to the Labour Minister.

The action follows yesterday’s General Pan-Cyprian Assembly at the PEO building in Limassol, where Construction Workers’ Union boards briefed members on developments and reaffirmed their commitment to continue the struggle “until the Ready-Mix Concrete Manufacturers Association accepts the agreed terms”.

The construction sector continues to face a severe crisis as the ongoing workers’ strike has halted numerous projects, leaving employers concerned about paying idle workers.

Labour Minister Yiannis Panayiotou stated yesterday that negotiations for contract renewal remain at an impasse, “with the situation having broader implications for related sectors of the Cypriot economy”.

According to Panayiotou, “there appears to be a significant gap between the positions accepted by the employers’ side, which were included in the rejected mediation proposal, and the trade unions, who have reverted to their initial positions. Given the current circumstances, reaching an agreement is challenging”.
