The Movement of Ecologists – Citizens’ Cooperation on Friday announced its support for striking workers at a Nicosia digital agency, condemning what it describes as the “arbitrary, sudden and illegal” termination of an employee’s contract.

The party called on authorities to ensure Optilink Solutions complies with labour laws, criticising what it termed “employer arbitrariness” at the company.

“It is inconceivable in a modern society to have employers who refuse to provide basic benefits and decent wages, violating labour rights and seeking to silence workers,” the party said in a statement.

The strike began last week after the dismissal of an employee, which workers claim was conducted illegally.

Strikers are demanding fair working conditions, respect for their rights, and what they consider appropriate compensation.

In its announcement, the Movement of Ecologists – Citizens’ Cooperation urged the company to respond to what it called “fair claims” from workers, condemning any attempts to intimidate employees.

“Protection of labour rights is not optional – it is the obligation of every employer who respects workers and their contribution,” the statement added.

The Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) Cyprus union led a two-hour picket outside the company’s premises on February 18, drawing support from workers at neighbouring businesses.

According to a IWW social media post, the dismissal came days after staff collectively presented management with demands including pay raises. The union claims management explicitly cited the wage request as grounds for termination.

IWW said that the company allegedly threatened striking workers with disciplinary action if they do not return to work.
