Paphos Transport Organisation (OSYPA) workers will hold a 24-hour strike on Monday, November 25, after rejecting a second mediation proposal from the Ministry of Labour regarding their collective agreement renewal.
The unions said the industrial action follows procedures outlined in the Industrial Relations Code, with workers voting against the ministry’s latest proposal during their general assembly.
Despite ongoing negotiations to renew the collective agreement, the failure to find common ground has led to the strike action.
Union representatives expressed regret for the disruption to passengers, stating that “responsibility for this situation does not lie with the workers”.
Petros Demosthenous, Paphos District Secretary of the SEK union, said strike action became “inevitable following the rejection of the mediation service’s proposal”.
He emphasised that workers remain open to dialogue, hoping for a mutually acceptable solution that will protect their rights and restore normal public transport operations.
