Residential solar panel owners will face significant costs to enable self-consumption during mandated grid disconnection periods recently approved by parliament.

Energy Minister George Papanastasiou explained that homeowners wanting to continue using their solar power during grid cut-off periods will need to pay between €300 and €1,000 for system modifications.

The cost of installing a double switch that allows simultaneous disconnection from the grid while continuing to use solar power for self-consumption is approximately €300, Papanastasiou said.

This expense increases to around €1,000 if the inverter needs replacement to accommodate this modification.
