Cyprus is facing an unusual energy situation where solar systems are being disconnected during daytime hours due to excess electricity production, despite potential evening power cuts caused by high heating demand.
The distribution system operator has informed photovoltaic system owners with capacity between 0-499kWp that on Wednesday, systems were disconnected across various regions of Cyprus.
The disconnections, ordered by the Cyprus Transmission System Operator (TSO), were implemented due to exceptionally low electricity demand combined with favourable weather conditions generating surplus solar power. The affected systems are connected to the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) distribution network and are controlled through a remote load control system.
Affected users have been advised to take necessary steps to verify proper system operation and restoration of their equipment.
