The cabinet has approved a proposal by the Ministry of Education to limit the number of incoming third-country students in private higher education institutions for the 2024-2025 academic year.
Deputy Government Spokesman Yiannis Antoniou announced that the decision allows students from Council of Europe countries to enrol in these institutions without restrictions, up to the total capacity of each institution.
However, the number of students from other third countries will be capped.
Antoniou emphasised that this regulation is temporary, applicable only for the upcoming academic year, and includes strict conditions to balance the goal of attracting students with the Republic’s immigration policy.
The government aims to ensure a regulated influx of third-country students while maintaining the quality and integrity of the education system.
The decision applies to all 21 private higher education institutions in Cyprus that have a significant number of third-country students.
