Technip Energies representatives will make their first visit tomorrow to the dormant Vasilikos terminal construction site, following the company’s appointment as project manager by ETYFA to restart work on the liquefied natural gas regasification terminal.
The ETYFA-Technip Energies contract was activated on Monday after final consultations between both parties on planning actions for the coming period, according to philenews sources.
Following contract activation, Technip Energies gained access to all documents, plans and data relating to the terminal project.
After tomorrow’s official meeting between ETYFA and French company representatives at Vasilikos, Technip Energies will begin on-site project management, with priority given to assessing the project’s current condition and launching tenders for selecting contractors to build the terminal’s onshore infrastructure.
The project manager team is expected to require several months to gain momentum, despite forming a good understanding of the project and problems that halted it during contract negotiations.
Jetty and corrosion concerns
ETYFA maintains ongoing contact with VPSM consortium representatives (Multimarine Services and Spanopoulos Group) to enable contract signing for resuming jetty completion work, where the FSRU Prometheus will dock.
Basic problems that emerged within the consortium in previous weeks appear resolved, with ETYFA consultations progressing well, though no financial agreement has been reached.
Procedures are currently underway to inspect installed jetty elements for potential displacement or corrosion of metal piles and other infrastructure following prolonged sea exposure without necessary protection after CPP’s sudden work suspension.
Determining the incomplete jetty infrastructure’s current condition is crucial for completing VPSM negotiations. If the jetty has suffered corrosion damage or significant element displacement, additional work will be required at extra cost to restore acceptable conditions.
Final negotiations will occur after completing the jetty condition assessment. The target remains signing an agreement in June and restarting work in July.
Weather constraints
As previously reported, weather conditions at Vasilikos typically prevent sea-based work from November through March.
Efforts will focus on maximising the July-October period, though this four-month window is estimated insufficient for jetty completion.
