Cyprus firm wins deal to supply gas to Transnistria

A Cyprus-based company has secured a deal to supply natural gas to Moldova’s breakaway Transnistria region, which has been without gas since January 1, Russian media reported according to Reuters.

Ozbor Enterprises has arranged to deliver approximately 3.1 million cubic metres of gas daily via the TurkStream pipeline, according to the Russian newspaper Kommersant, citing data from the RBP trading platform.

The deliveries are scheduled to begin February 1 and will continue for one month, entering through the Strandzha 2 point on the Turkey-Bulgaria border, the report said.

The arrangement comes after thousands of residents in Transnistria lost access to heating and hot water when Russian gas giant Gazprom suspended exports to the region. The suspension followed the expiration of a five-year Ukraine-Russia transit agreement.

Gazprom had cited Moldova’s unpaid debt of $709 million as reason for stopping supplies, though authorities in Chisinau dispute this figure. The breakaway region has been without gas since the start of 2025.
