Today marks a critical point in discussions over Cyprus’ Cost of Living Adjustment (CoLA/ATA) mechanism, with key stakeholders holding separate meetings to determine next steps.
Trade unions will convene a pan-union conference at 15:30, while the Federation of Employers and Industrialists (OEV) will hold an emergency expanded Executive Committee meeting via teleconference at 17:00.
Union organisations described last Friday’s meeting at the Ministry of Labour, which included the Ministers of Finance and Labour, as causing “serious regression” and reaching an “impasse”. Today’s union conference is expected to provide updates and decide on further actions.
The Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance stated that consultations are continuing, noting there is a positive approach from both sides – unions and employers – toward reaching an agreement.
OEV Director General Michalis Antoniou told the Cyprus News Agency that today’s meeting aims to provide information and exchange views but emphasised that “decisions have been made and instructions to the negotiating team cannot change”.
