Prague flight to Cyprus among those targeted by bomb threats

A flight from Prague to Cyprus was among nine flights to and from the Czech capital targeted by bomb threats on Friday, amid a week of false alarms targeting flights across Europe.

Four flights arriving at Prague airport and five departing from it were targeted, airport spokeswoman Denisa Hejtmankova told AFP. The arrivals were from Denmark, Britain and two from Spain, while the departures were bound for the Netherlands, Cyprus, Romania, Italy and Britain, she said.

Czech police had already checked four aircraft on Thursday following threats.

The airport and Czech police declined to give details of the flights affected. Airport spokesman Jiri Hanich told AFP that operations were continuing normally and smoothly despite the threats.

In Bulgaria, a Transport Ministry spokesperson told AFP that warnings had also been received about two flights to Sofia, one from London Stansted and one from Brussels. Both landed safely.

Portuguese police said a Ryanair flight due to leave Lisbon for Rome that day had also been targeted.

Dozens of commercial flights in Europe have been the subject of false alarms this week, forcing authorities to divert some aircraft and send fighter jets to escort others.
