A 53-year-old man has been remanded in custody for five days after drug squad officers found about 104 grams of cocaine in a case he was seen throwing into a field as they arrived to search his home in Paphos.

Officers from the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN) of the Directorate for Combating Organised Crime went to the man’s house in Paphos district at around 5pm on Tuesday, to carry out a search under a court warrant.

As they arrived, the man was seen running across his yard and throwing a black case into a neighbouring field. The case was found to contain about 104 grams of cocaine, and he was arrested on the spot.

A search of the house turned up items including a precision scale and a wooden container, both bearing traces of cocaine, as well as €800 in cash.

The man appeared before Paphos District Court on Wednesday, which issued a five-day remand order.

YKAN’s Paphos branch is continuing its investigation.
