A 19-year-old has admitted attacking a 17-year-old pupil inside a secondary school in western Limassol and has been charged in writing, philenews understands.
The 19-year-old, who is not a pupil at the school, was arrested on Sunday on a court warrant. He admitted hitting the teenager in a written statement to police. He was charged with assault causing actual bodily harm and unlawful entry, and is expected to be summoned to appear in court at a later date.
The 17-year-old was taken by ambulance to Limassol General Hospital with head injuries and loss of consciousness. He was kept in the surgical ward for treatment and observation.
The 19-year-old linked the attack to an earlier incident between his former girlfriend and the 17-year-old, who is her classmate, philenews understands. He reportedly said he had been told about the incident.
The attack happened on the morning of Friday, October 16, when the 19-year-old entered the school looking for the 17-year-old. He asked another pupil where the teenager was, the boy’s mother told philenews. When he did not immediately get the answer he wanted, he allegedly punched and threatened that pupil, before finding out where the 17-year-old was.
Her son was with other pupils in the school grounds when the 19-year-old found him and started hitting him, she said.
“He told me: ‘Mum, I took two punches to the head and I don’t remember anything else’,” she said.
The mother had earlier told philenews that the attack might be linked to a misunderstanding between her son and the pupil who used to be the 19-year-old’s girlfriend.
Two days before the assault, the two allegedly had a pushing incident following a misunderstanding. Her son was suspended from school over it and the girl was called in by the assistant headteacher, she said. The mother said the matter had been considered closed.
