Former Democratic Rally (DISY) leader Averof Neofytou has said he will run for president again if there are no positive developments on the Cyprus problem in New York this weekend.
His comments come days after DISY leader Annita Demetriou made her interest in the party’s nomination for the presidency known at a meeting of the party leadership on Monday.
“If, God forbid, the weekend is bleak, a dead end, and nothing moves, Averof will be a candidate,” he said on Omega’s ‘Aichmes’ programme.
Andreas Mavroyiannis, another potential presidential candidate, also appeared on the programme. Both men ran in the 2023 presidential election.
