Anastasiades “sold land like he sold passports,” MPs say

MPs on Cyprus’s House Audit Committee accused the government of former President Nicos Anastasiades of leaving public coastal land promised for development back in 2018 sitting unused eight years on. The companies holding the development rights, MPs noted, watched them grow into transferable, multi-million-euro assets in the meantime. The criticism came during a Committee discussion of an Audit Office report on six coastal sites earmarked for the developments.

DIKO MP Chrysanthos Savvidis, referring to Anastasiades, said: “My friend Anastasiades sold land just as he sold passports.”

Committee members were told the sites are not marinas. They are smaller, privately-led developments, accommodating up to 150 boats each.

Annual fees for the sites range from 75,000 euros to 262,000 euros, according to Land Registry calculations based on location, size and use.

The six sites are split between Larnaca and Paphos. In Larnaca, the sites are at Alaminos, awarded to Muskita Holdings Ltd, and at Softades, Kiti, awarded to Alpha Panareti Public Ltd and Agi-Cypre Property 16 Ltd, and separately to M. Afxentiou & A. Stylianou Developers Ltd. In Paphos, the sites are at Pegeia, awarded to Leptos Calypso Hotels Public Ltd; at Cha Potami, Kouklia, awarded to Venus Rock Estates Ltd; and at Pachyammos, Kato Paphos, awarded to The Sunset Boulevard Tourist & Estate Company Ltd and Actinolite Ltd.
