A 47-year-old man has reported to police that his wife was arrested in the occupied areas on Saturday at the Turkish Cypriot checkpoint at the Ayios Dometios crossing.
The woman, a citizen of the Republic of Cyprus, had been travelling from the occupied areas to the government-controlled areas.
A spokesperson for the Cyprus Police Communication Branch said the woman’s 47-year-old husband, who is also a Republic of Cyprus citizen, went to Ayios Dometios police station on Saturday and reported that his 45-year-old wife had been “arrested” by the occupation authorities while leaving through the crossing.
According to his report, the arrest was linked to her crossing the previous day, Friday, when she had allegedly left the occupied areas without going through an identity check.
Cyprus police have informed the bicommunal Technical Committee on Crime and Criminal Matters about the case.
There have been no reports about the incident in the Turkish Cypriot media.
It also remains unclear whether the 45-year-old woman will appear before a “court” in the occupied areas on Sunday.
