A 34-year-old Israeli man drowned off a beach in Limassol on Tuesday morning.
According to Israeli media, the man had gone swimming with his family when he disappeared under circumstances that are still being investigated. Family members immediately began searching along the coastline and at sea, a search that lasted around two hours, until the man was found floating in the water.
Police said lifeguards pulled the man from the sea and an ambulance was called to the scene, but he was pronounced dead despite efforts to save him.
Israel’s Foreign Ministry and Cypriot authorities are working together to complete the procedures needed to repatriate his body to Israel.
