The State Health Services Organisation (SHSO) is investigating a serious complaint involving a 4-year-old patient, after the child’s mother spoke publicly, alleging delays by doctors that she says have left her son, now hospitalised for around two weeks with symptoms of meningitis, brain dead.
According to the mother, the boy was first taken by his parents to Limassol General Hospital, and from there transferred to Makarios Hospital in Nicosia after his condition worsened.
Those close to the child’s family say he appears to be brain dead, with the parents alleging delays and serious errors in his treatment.
SHSO’s response
Regarding media reports concerning the mother’s statements about the treatment of her 4-year-old child, SHSO said it had taken note of the reports and had already begun investigating the case in order to establish the facts.
The organisation expressed its sympathy to the child’s family and said every such report is treated with due seriousness, responsibility and objectivity, in line with established procedures.
