Police have arrested a 37-year-old driver after a 70-year-old road worker was fatally struck on the Nicosia-Limassol motorway on Wednesday.
Savvas Ioannou, from Paphos, was unloading traffic cones from a light truck when the driver’s saloon car hit the cones and collided with a large illuminated flashing arrow sign attached to the vehicle, fatally injuring him.
The 37-year-old sustained minor injuries. He tested negative for alcohol and drugs and was subsequently arrested under a court warrant to facilitate the investigation.
Limassol traffic police said the investigation is ongoing.
