Limassol’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is investigating a 41-year-old mother on suspicion of attempted murder after she allegedly gave sedative pills to her 7-year-old child and took the same medication herself, police sources said.

The child’s father found both of them unconscious and rushed them to a private hospital in the city, where doctors managed to revive them.

Investigators are continuing to take statements to establish the full circumstances of the incident, according to the latest information available.

The 7-year-old has already been discharged after doctors said his condition was no longer critical. The mother, however, remains at Athalassa Hospital under a court order after a government psychiatrist assessed her and deemed the hospitalisation necessary.
