A 28-year-old man has been arrested over an arson attack on a Limassol car showroom that destroyed two luxury vehicles worth a combined €180,000.

Police arrested the suspect yesterday on a court warrant after investigations produced evidence against him. Officers searched his vehicle and home, seizing items for forensic examination.

The attack targeted a car dealership in the centre of Limassol owned by a 37-year-old. The fire broke out at around 4:15am on Sunday 25 January in the enclosed showroom, according to police. The Fire Service was called to the scene and extinguished the blaze.

Preliminary investigations established that the fire was set deliberately. An unknown perpetrator broke the showroom’s glass frontage, doused the interior with flammable material and set it alight, causing serious damage, police said.

Two luxury cars — valued at €120,000 and €60,000 respectively — were completely destroyed in the fire, along with damage to the premises.

The Limassol Criminal Investigation Department is continuing its investigations.
