Police hunt for suspects after businessman Demosthenous murdered outside Limassol home, not on road

Police have launched a manhunt for suspects involved in the murder of former Karmiotissa football club chairman Stavros Demosthenous, who was shot dead outside his Sfalangiotissa home in Limassol this morning.

Investigators are examining a torched vehicle found near the scene, which may have been used by the assailants to flee after the attack. The discovery of the burnt car suggests a planned murder with efforts to destroy evidence.

Police are on high alert across all districts of Cyprus and have implemented checks at crossing points to the occupied northern part of the country to prevent suspects from escaping across the buffer zone.

Authorities have also deployed a helicopter that is scanning the area for any signs of the perpetrators or additional evidence related to the case.

Earlier today, it was confirmed that Demosthenous was shot near his residence, not in a road ambush as initially reported. His son attempted to rush him to hospital following the shooting, with a traffic collision occurring during this emergency transport.

Demosthenous was a prominent Limassol businessman who had previously served as president of Aris Limassol football club before becoming chairman of Karmiotissa.

The investigation continues with multiple crime scenes being processed simultaneously, including the victim’s residence, the location of the torched vehicle, and the route where the traffic incident occurred during the transport attempt.

No information has been released regarding potential suspects or motives.
