Serious revelations follow the Independent Authority Against Corruption’s report centred on former Nicosia Water Board director and current General Director of the Nicosia District Local Government Organisation Constantinos Parmaklis.

According to an announcement from the Nicosia District Local Government Organisation, investigations were underway into complaints from four employees regarding acts of harassment and/or sexual harassment against the complainant.

The full announcement states that following the authority’s recent decision and to avoid creating false impressions, the authority examined approximately 70 complaints, all originating from an employee of the (now-abolished) Nicosia Water Board.

Only four of 70 complaints warranted further review

The complainant lodged these complaints whilst facing a disciplinary investigation following complaints from four employees regarding acts of harassment and/or sexual harassment.

The authority concluded after examination that only four cases identified issues requiring further assessment, which concerned the purchase of two televisions, the installation of blinds, and the organisation of a celebratory event for the water board’s 70 years of operation.

All the above actions were subject to decision and approval by the Nicosia Water Board’s governing body.

All flagged actions approved by water board’s governing body

However, the organisation must emphasise that from examining dozens of complaints, the authority identified a limited number of issues, which did not concern systematic or extensive practice but isolated actions connected with decisions of collective bodies, according to its announcement.

The organisation “fully respects the authority’s findings and approaches the matter with a spirit of cooperation and responsibility, whilst not disregarding the fact that the overwhelming majority of complaints were deemed unfounded”.
