A lawyer has requested that the attorney general appoint an independent criminal investigator to examine potential criminal offences against Anna Aristotelous and Athina Dimitriou by Michalis Katsounotos, Maria Siali and Charis Herodotou.
Christos Triantafyllides asked Attorney General Giorgos Savvides in a letter to instruct police investigating potential criminal offences by Aristotelous and Dimitriou regarding the transfer of documents outside Central Prisons to include in their enquiries the content of statements by convicted prisoners.
The lawyer copied the letter to President Nikos Christodoulides, Justice Minister Marios Hartsiotis and Deputy Attorney General Savvas Angelides.
Writing on behalf of his clients, Triantafyllides enclosed copies of written statements by two individuals, M.S. and K.T., dated 16 September 2025 and 26 September 2025, respectively, which came to his knowledge under conditions covered by professional confidentiality.
The lawyer argued that the professional status of the persons concerned, particularly Katsounotos’s rank in the Cyprus Police Force, makes it “objectively impossible” for the complaints to be investigated by members of the police force.
He requested that police investigating the alleged offences by his clients immediately include the enclosed statements in their investigations, noting that persons who are indirectly or directly involved in what is referred to in the statements “must not and therefore cannot any longer be involved” in the investigations.
Triantafyllides called for all investigations to begin from scratch, arguing that what has taken place to date is “contaminated by the unacceptable actions of members of the police force” referred to in the enclosed statements and in letters sent to the attorney general on 2 July 2025.
The lawyer said it is obvious that what is referred to in the written statements constitutes very serious criminal offences, which is why he copied the letter to the president, justice minister, and deputy attorney general as competent under Article 114 of the Constitution.
Due to the nature of the content of the statements, Triantafyllides requested that the attorney general address the complaint as quickly as possible.
He noted that the letter is not confidential in nature.
