Three people were injured in an explosion at a metal recycling facility in Aradippou on Friday morning, with authorities investigating whether military ordnance caused the blast.
The incident occurred around 9:45 a.m. when a 52-year-old individual arrived at the scrap metal collection site with a double-cabin vehicle to deliver old metals, police reported. An explosion occurred during the unloading process, injuring the man, a foreign employee at the facility, and another citizen who had come to deliver metals.
All three victims were transported by ambulance to Larnaca General Hospital’s emergency department. Police have cordoned off the scene and launched an investigation into the explosion’s cause.

Police investigate possible military ordnance cause
Authorities are examining whether the explosion resulted from an object collected from a firing range amongst the delivered scrap metal. The National Guard has been notified of the incident as part of the investigation.
The blast occurred during routine metal collection procedures at the Aradippou facility, with the explosion injuring both the person delivering materials and staff on site.

Emergency services responded immediately to the scene, with ambulances transporting the injured parties for medical treatment. The extent of injuries has not been disclosed by authorities.
