An alert was raised on a Delta Airlines flight (DL446) bound for Atlanta when a fire broke out in the left engine of the aircraft shortly after takeoff from Los Angeles. The Boeing 767-432(ER) declared an emergency and immediately returned to the airport, with no injuries reported.

The pilots detected indications of an engine fire while the plane was flying over the Pacific. In coordination with the control tower, they followed safe return procedures, passing over the Downey and Paramount areas to complete the necessary landing preparations. Upon landing, fire department units were already waiting at the scene and confirmed the fire was completely extinguished. The aircraft was immediately towed for technical inspection. In a statement, Delta said that “the return to Los Angeles was precautionary, following an indication of an issue with the left engine.”

A video of the moment was published by the “LA Flights” channel on YouTube, capturing the plane’s return in real-time with flames erupting from the engine. Passengers, according to testimonials, remained calm, and the captain informed them about the situation and the safe extinguishment of the fire. Flight personnel followed all protocols, with Delta confirming that no injuries occurred among the satisfied passengers and crew. So far, the airline has not announced the cause of the technical problem, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
