Police are investigating various leads relating to the background and professional activities of a 49-year-old following an assassination attempt in Pyla village.
All motives remain under consideration, including potential score-settling, according to police sources. The victim, who sustained a leg wound and remains hospitalised, told police he has no suspicion about who might be behind the attack and claims no disputes with anyone.
The gunman ambushed the victim at midnight outside his home as he collected his partner and her 12-year-old daughter from a trip abroad. After the family exited their vehicle, the assailant fired two shots, believed to be from a pistol, towards the 49-year-old.
One bullet struck the victim’s leg whilst another lodged in a suitcase. The attack occurred in front of the partner and child.
Police transferred evidence from the scene for scientific examination and are seeking CCTV footage to trace the gunman’s movements.
The victim was taken to Larnaca General Hospital where medical staff confirmed a through-and-through wound to his right lower limb. He remains under medical care.
Authorities will take a written statement once his health condition permits. The investigation continues across multiple directions as police examine the victim’s background and professional connections.
