Police have arrested three football officials from second-division club P.O. Achyronas-Onisillos following an investigation into alleged contract fraud.
Authorities executed search and arrest warrants at the club’s offices, detaining two senior club administrators and a players’ agent, aged 58, 57, and 44.
The Famagusta District Court approved an eight-day detention order for the suspects, who are being investigated for conspiracy to commit a felony, fraud, document forgery, circulation of forged documents, and obtaining registration through false representation.
Police sources told philenews that the investigation centres on allegations that contracts submitted to the Cyprus Football Association differed from actual agreements made with players.
At least one contract is suspected to have been forged without the player’s knowledge.
Spyros Neofytides, executive chairman of the Cyprus Footballers’ Association (PASP), told philenews: “While we respect the presumption of innocence, such cases must be investigated thoroughly”.
He highlighted ongoing concerns about player contracts, noting that some agreements specify monthly wages of 150 euros, below the national minimum wage.
The investigation continues with support from Famagusta’s Criminal Investigation Department.
