Mavrokolympos dam has been completely drained, Agriculture Ministry Director General Andreas Gregoriou said Thursday.

Officials will conduct an on-site inspection to assess conditions and identify necessary repairs. A work programme will be developed based on the findings.

The dam’s drainage gate was opened to facilitate the process and remove silt.

Gregoriou said it was not yet possible to estimate how long repairs would take.

The Mavrokolympos reservoir, which has a capacity of 2.18 million cubic metres, primarily supplies water for irrigation to banana plantations in the Kissonerga-Peyia area.
