The cost of Christmas dinner in Cyprus has risen significantly this year, with prices ranging from 30 to 300 euros depending on the menu choice, according to a new survey by the Cyprus Consumers Association.

The study revealed sharp increases in staple ingredients, with tomatoes surging by 131 percent and cucumbers by 113 percent, while fresh meat prices rose by an average of 20 percent. Some items saw decreases, with merlin oranges and onions dropping by 17 and 15 percent respectively.

The survey, conducted between 9-17 December 2024 across Nicosia, Limassol and Paphos, examined prices of 35 food and beverage items across three dinner categories:

For a “luxury” Christmas dinner, a family of four in Nicosia would pay 212 euros, an 11.79 percent increase from last year, while costs in Limassol and Paphos reached 198 and 215 euros respectively. For six people, costs ranged between 281 and 308 euros.

A “moderate” dinner would cost a family of four 123 euros in Nicosia, marking a 19.22 percent increase, while Limassol and Paphos prices were 121 and 122 euros respectively. For six people, costs ranged between 157 and 158 euros.

The “budget” option for a family of four started at 31 euros in Nicosia, a 14.83 percent increase, reaching 34 euros in Paphos. For six people, costs varied between 44 and 51 euros.

The Consumers Association noted that while prices fluctuated during the survey period, variations were minimal. Vegetable prices may change slightly before Christmas, with minor fluctuations expected in fresh meat prices. The study also found that a large percentage of products were on special offer, with prices remaining stable throughout the survey period.
