A bill proposing a zero-alcohol limit for new drivers has been introduced to parliament by DIKO MP Chrysanthos Savvides, in response to recent alcohol-related road fatalities involving young drivers.
Savvides presented the proposal during a House Education Committee meeting discussing road safety awareness in schools, a topic raised by DIPA MP Alekos Tryfonides.
The proposed legislation would require new drivers to maintain a zero blood alcohol level for their first three years of driving, compared to the current limit of 9mg. The measure aims to reduce road accidents involving novice drivers under the influence of alcohol.
