A new US Department of Government Efficiency, backed by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, is recruiting “super high-IQ small-government revolutionaries” willing to work over 80 hours weekly without compensation.
The position, announced on X, seeks candidates for “unglamorous cost-cutting” work, with Musk warning applicants the role will be “tedious” and “make lots of enemies.” Only the top 1% of applicants will have their CVs reviewed by Musk and Ramaswamy personally.
“We don’t need more part-time idea generators. We need super high-IQ small-government revolutionaries willing to work 80+ hours per week on unglamorous cost-cutting”, Musk said.
The initiative aims to slash $2 trillion in government spending and reduce federal bureaucracy by a third, though the department itself is not part of the federal government.
Musk asked interested candidates to submit their CVs via direct message on X.
“If that’s you, DM this account with your CV. Elon & Vivek will review the top 1% of applicant”, the statement added.
Musk, the world’s richest person, has promised to reduce federal bureaucracy by a third and cut $2 trillion from US government spending, a project he said “necessarily involves some temporary hardship”.
Musk, who advocated for the department’s creation, has emphasised its acronym Doge, referencing both a Shiba Inu meme and the cryptocurrency Dogecoin he promotes.
Since election day, Dogecoin’s value has more than doubled, whilst Tesla shares have risen about 30 percent. Musk saw his riches increase by $26.5 billion.
It is estimated that he donated over $75 million to pro-Trump groups during the 47th US President’s campaign.
