State services are closely monitoring developments following a warning by cybersecurity firm Odyssey about a potential cyberattack, sources told the Cyprus News Agency (CNA).

“We are on high alert for any developments. State services are closely monitoring the situation. There is no attack at present”, an official said.

According to Odyssey, a hacker group known as LulzSec Black has publicly declared its intention to target Cyprus’s critical infrastructure.

The firm stated, “The attack appears to be politically motivated, citing Cyprus’s relationship with Israel as a factor behind the impending cyberattack”.

Odyssey noted that a planned cyberattack targeting Cyprus’s infrastructure is scheduled for October 17.

The cybersecurity company added that the threat is further amplified by the involvement of a group called “Moroccan Soldiers”, who have expressed support for LulzSec Black in these operations.

The targeted systems reportedly include Cypriot infrastructure, specifically government, financial, and critical services, which may be at risk of service disruptions, data theft, or system breaches.
