Secondary schools and technical schools reopened their doors today as over 48,000 students returned to classes this morning.
The first day of the new academic year is primarily dedicated to administrative tasks, including class assignments, timetable announcements, and textbook distribution.

A total of 42,650 students will attend Secondary General Education schools, with 7,031 teachers employed. In Secondary Technical Education, 4,929 students will attend morning classes and 588 will attend afternoon sessions, taught by 667 teachers.

School administrations, particularly of certain high schools, are on high alert today due to the possibility of students carrying out the traditional “raid”. This practice involves students entering their schools in the morning with banners and flares, sometimes causing disruptions.
Another tradition, known as the “pinta” (all-nighter), sees students staying up all night on school premises.
The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with other authorities, has prepared a plan to prevent any issues, prioritising educational measures. In a statement, Education Minister Athina Michaelidou emphasised the importance of education as the state’s most significant investment.

She said, “The Ministry of Education aims to ensure conditions that promote educational work and provide a learning environment free from barriers and exclusions, prioritising the quality and creativity in the functioning of our schools and universities.”
