Cyprus Police is seeking to add two new anti-riot water cannon vehicles to its force.
The new vehicles will be deployed in Limassol to cover Paphos and in Larnaca to cover the free area of Famagusta.
The estimated cost for this acquisition is €1,010,000.
The tender for the vehicles includes the training of operators and the maintenance of the equipment. The vehicles are designed to be vandal-proof, fire-resistant, and capable of long-range water projection.
The existing ‘Aiantas’ vehicle has been the subject of controversy following its use during the impression of the ‘Os Dame’ protests in 2021, which ended in a serious eye injury to a protester.
In addition to the anti-riot vehicles, the Police are also seeking to purchase 200 vandal-proof and fire-resistant mattresses for police holding cells, at an estimated cost of €43,000. Furthermore, three new vans valued at €135,000 are planned for acquisition.
