Flight suspensions in Middle East extended due to tensions

Air France and its subsidiary Transavia France announced on Monday that they are once again extending the suspension of their flights to Beirut, until 14 August, due to ongoing tensions in the region.

Flights have been suspended since July 29 due to the “security situation in Lebanon,” and their resumption “will be subject to a new assessment of the situation on the ground,” Air France said in a statement.

The airline company stated that “the safety of our customers and crews is our absolute priority.”

Customers with bookings for flights before August 18 can cancel or modify their trips without cost.

Many international companies have stopped serving Beirut due to fears of military escalation between Israel and Hezbollah following an Israeli air raid that killed a senior Hezbollah commander in Lebanon.

However, Air France said it continues to operate flights to Israel’s main airport near Tel Aviv, although some international carriers, such as Italy’s ITA, have suspended their flights at least until August 15.

Meanwhile, the German airline group Lufthansa announced on Monday that it is extending the suspension of flights to Tel Aviv, Tehran, Beirut, Amman, and Erbil until August 21.

It added that it will also avoid using Iranian and Iraqi airspace until August 21, an extension from the previous date of August 13.

Swiss International Air Lines, Switzerland’s national carrier, also announced that it will avoid Iranian and Iraqi airspace until August 21.
