Flights to and from Beirut airport have been suspended or delayed as tensions escalate between Israel and Lebanon‘s Hezbollah, following a deadly strike on Israeli-occupied Golan Heights that killed 12 children and teenagers.
Air France and its subsidiary Transavia France have suspended their flights from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport to Beirut for today and tomorrow due to security concerns, as announced by an Air France-KLM group spokesperson.
Additionally, Lufthansa, Swiss, and Eurowings, subsidiaries of the German Lufthansa Group, are also suspending their flights to and from Beirut until August 5 due to the evolving situation in the Middle East, according to a group spokesperson.
Saturday’s rocket attack on the Golan Heights heightened fears of a potential regional conflict between Israel and the Iran-backed Lebanese organisation, Hezbollah.
Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport’s flight information service and Flightradar24 reported that during Sunday night, Turkish Airlines also suspended two of its flights.
According to Flightradar24, Turkish low-cost carrier SunExpress, Turkish Airlines subsidiary AJet, Greece’s Aegean Airlines, Ethiopian Air, and Lebanon’s national carrier MEA canceled all their flights scheduled to land in Beirut today.
Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport is Lebanon’s sole airport and has been a target during the country’s civil war and previous conflicts with Israel, including the 2006 war with Hezbollah.
