Cypriot authorities have expressed their willingness to assist British Police after it was revealed that UK far-right organiser Tommy Robinson is in Cyprus.
According to information published by the Daily Mail, the former English Defence League leader appears to be evading a court hearing in the UK while holidaying in a five-star resort in Ayia Napa.
Robinson is also alleged to have played a role in inciting attacks targeting migrants in Britain.
Cyprus Police said that they had been in touch with their British counterparts as soon as they became aware of Robinson’s presence in the country and his pending court case in the UK.
The police said they had offered assistance if needed.
Robinson has been using social media to encourage unrest in his home country, with a particular focus on anti-migrant sentiment.
In a series of posts last week, Robinson promoted violent attacks on migrants and Muslims urged for deportations.
The far-right figurehead was released on bail without conditions last Sunday evening following his arrest by British police over the weekend.
However, he failed to appear at the Royal Courts of Justice in London on Monday, according to a court official.
Robinson is accused of breaching a court order imposed on him in 2021 as a result of a successful defamation case brought against him by a Syrian refugee, Jamal Hijazi, whom Robinson had made false claims about.
The Cyprus Police and British law enforcement are now in open communication regarding the case.
