Cyprus government on alert over Middle East tension

The Cypriot government is closely monitoring the situation in the Middle East, with Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades stating that “everyone is on their toes”.

Addressing queries about flights between Cyprus and Israel, Vafeades confirmed that air connectivity remains intact. He noted that while some airlines have temporarily suspended their Tel Aviv routes, others continue to operate as usual.

“The Government is monitoring the situation as it unfolds in the region,” Vafeades said. “Depending on developments, we will inform the public accordingly.”

Data from Hermes Airports suggests that cancellations of scheduled Tel Aviv flights are being offset by additional services from airlines maintaining their programmes.

Currently, two European carriers, Aegean and Wizz Air, have suspended their Larnaca-Tel Aviv flights until 11 August. Other airlines, including Israeli and Cyprus-based operators, have experienced some cancellations but are balancing their schedules with additional flights.

Flights to Beirut appear unaffected by the regional situation at present.
