Limassol police intensify their investigation into the double homicide of two men whose bodies were found burned beyond recognition in a car early Thursday morning in the Listovounos area.
Investigators believe the victims were shot in the head with a hunting rifle before the vehicle was set ablaze in an attempt to destroy evidence.
A recent lead has emerged, focusing on a missing Cypriot man from the area who has not returned home. Authorities are also examining other pieces of information related to the victims.
The burned-out Opel Astra has been linked to a specific individual, although it was being driven by someone else. While investigators have a clear direction, they are being cautious about releasing details, pending the results of DNA tests on the charred remains.
Key questions remain unanswered, including where the victims were initially killed.
Investigators are considering whether they were murdered at the scene and then burned in the car, or if they were shot elsewhere and the vehicle was driven to the remote location and set on fire. The murder weapon has yet to be recovered.
The victims’ positions within the vehicle – one in the passenger seat and the other in the rear, reclined – suggest a premeditated killing.
This case bears similarities to the 2021 murder of Leontios Poyiatzi, whose body was found burned in a car in Paphos.
