The number of COVID-19 patients hospitalised in state hospitals remains steadily above fifty, while three elderly patients are being treated in Intensive Care Units due to severe symptoms of the virus.

At the same time, two patients (one of whom is off the ventilator) continue to be treated in ICUs due to severe heatstroke symptoms. Another patient is being treated in a regular ward for heatstroke.

As SHSO spokesperson Charalambos Charilaou told philenews, “as long as there is increased community transmission of COVID-19, it is logical that we will have hospitalised patients and patients in ICUs. Let’s not forget that a new subvariant of the virus is now circulating throughout Europe.”

Charilaou stated that “the situation is manageable, and there is no cause for concern regarding the readiness or capacity of our hospitals to serve patients who need help.”

Regarding patients with heatstroke, Charilaou said, “as long as the high temperatures persist, we will certainly continue to have cases, which is why we are once again calling on citizens to faithfully observe heatwave protection measures.”
