A 49-year-old German real estate agent was charged in a Nicosia court today with offences related to the sale of properties in the Turkish-occupied north of Cyprus, which could carry a sentence of up to seven years in prison.
The woman is accused of receiving €169,150 from the sale of five units in the “Olive Tree” complex in Agios Amvrosios, a village in occupied Kyrenia.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) alleges the money represents commissions from the sales, while the defendant claims it was payment for advertising services.
The properties were developed by Turkish Cypriot businessman Ali Kayim, and the sales were reportedly made to German nationals.
The woman, who also owns a residential unit in the complex, claimed she was unaware the properties belonged to Greek Cypriots. Her lawyer argued that she acted in good faith and is a victim of the situation.
The judge adjourned the proceedings and will issue a decision on bail later. The trial is set to begin on September 17.
