The Cypriot government on Thursday submitted a bill to parliament seeking approval for an agreement with the United States that would pave the way for the country’s inclusion in the U.S. Visa Waiver Programme (VWP).

The bill, titled “The Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Cyprus and the Government of the United States of America on Cooperation regarding the Use of Travel Information (Validation) Act of 2024,” was authorised by the cabinet on June 19.

The agreement, signed in Washington on June 17, establishes a framework for information sharing and risk assessments to identify potential security threats.

Its validation by parliament is a key requirement for Cyprus’s inclusion in the VWP, which allows citizens of participating countries to travel to the U.S. for short-term visits without a visa.
