Police in Nicosia suspect a 23-year-old driver of manslaughter following a fatal pedestrian collision in Kokkinotrimia last Friday.

Eleni Stavrinidou, 77, was struck by the driver’s car on Eirinis and Filias Street at around 6:00 am.

According to police, the driver fled the scene without assisting the victim. Stavrinidou was taken to Nicosia General Hospital, where she died.

The driver presented himself at a police station two hours later. In-car camera footage reportedly shows the driver veering off course a significant distance before striking the clearly visible pedestrian. He then continued driving normally.

Police say the road and weather conditions were good, and the driver’s erratic behaviour is under investigation. An autopsy revealed extensive injuries to Stavrinidou, including a fractured skull, multiple organ damage, and complete spinal cord transection.

The seriousness of the case is underscored by its handling by the Nicosia Crime Detection Department, which investigates major crimes. The 23-year-old is reportedly considered a manslaughter suspect.
