An investigative team of the Police, led by an officer, has already commenced an inquiry into the powerful explosion that occurred on the ground floor of a two-storey building in Makedonitissa, shortly before seven last night, injuring two individuals.

As stated on state radio by Police Spokesperson Christos Andreou, investigations are being conducted in collaboration with the Fire Department, the Electrical and Mechanical Services, and other relevant authorities, and are focusing on two main aspects.

Firstly, the causes of the explosion, and secondly, whether the two-storey building is licensed and possesses all the necessary permits.

A 20-year-old woman residing in the apartment where the explosion took place was injured and swiftly transported to Nicosia General Hospital.

The incident is likely attributable to a gas leak and subsequent explosion.

In a social media post, the Fire Service spokesperson, Andreas Kettis, mentioned that a second individual was injured and was taken for treatment at a private clinic.

The strong explosion caused the walls of the apartment to collapse, leading to panic among the neighbours.
