Two people were transported to hospital after an explosion in the Makedonitissa area of Nicosia on Tuesday evening.
According to Fire Service spokesperson Andreas Kettis, the explosion took place around 6:30 p.m.
Kettis said that the explosion caused extensive damage to the ground floor of the house, which nearly collapsed.
Police said that a 20-year-old woman was transported to Nicosia General Hospital to receive treatment for burns, while a second person was in a state of shock.
Police and the Fire Service are investigating the case. Authorities said that K-9-trained dogs are participating in the investigation.
First indications show that the incident appears to have been caused by a gas cylinder explosion.
